“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me lay an invincible summer.” – Albert Camus
In this gentle retreat you’ll wander into our offerings at your own leisure. We have nooks and fires with prompts and poems and activities; puzzles and tea ceremony; journaling and meditation; stories and stillness. There is plenty to do here, and plenty not to do. There are birds and leaves and lizards and duiker that would arrive if you sit still. Perhaps winter is not an interruption of life; perhaps it is life gathering itself quietly around a fire.
The retreat runs from Friday 4pm to Sunday 4pm. Prices vary with accommodation choices. (Please see the form below.) And if you’re not convinced there’s a poem for you at the bottom of the form.
A POEM IN WHICH I TRAVELED ON A ROCK(IT)
by Tomas Brickhill
Once upon a treehouse retreat
as I tried to rush into a calm.
(Both an improbably and impossible feat),
I wandered a bit around the farm.
And then a made a cup of tea
and sat down on a rock.
I looked for peace so hurriedly
as the insects ran amok.
And just then a dragonfly
landed directly opposite me.
And we both stayed there eye to eye
Each waiting for the other to flee.
As I waited impatiently the dragonfly became stillness.
Seasons changed indifferently
and I finally overcame my illness.
The dragonfly was turned to stone
or at least I suspected as much.
Not a flinch, or flicker or groan
as the wind blew it fiercely such.
And together we traveled through time and space:
The rock, the dragonfly, and I
Until the sudden sunlight on my face
announced that blue had defeated cloud in the sky.
