Sometimes we get glimpses into what is possible. Sometimes those glimpses become windows into the imaginary.
My definition of magic is when the world reveals itself as greater than the story we knew of it. In this weekend we’ll wander and watch forests, creatures, stories, and ourselves until new possibilities are revealed to us. Whether you barely write, or do nonfiction, fiction, or poetry, come write a story, or rewrite a story, or rewrite your story. Anything is possible on the page.
The retreat includes:
- Writing workshops and discussions led by Jenna van de Ruit.
- Forest wanderings, prompts, and creative exercises in nature.
- Gourmet Zimbabwean food with original recipes designed by Cook Off Director Tomas Brickhill.
- A place to resurrect.
- Evenings of stories and celebration.

Rock Your Ideas
Until They Become
Young Again
If you’ve lost focus, just sit down and be still. Take the idea and rock it to and fro … You need do no more.
– Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run With the Wolves
In this fairytale an old man creaks through a forest until he comes across a lighted cottage, where he collapses from exhaustion. Inside, an old woman sits in front of a roaring fire. She takes him in her arms and rocks him until he becomes a child again.
Over three days we’ll revive some creative dreams, and give you tools to bring them back into the world. We’ll gather as a small group of six in forests, before fires and finches, and in the stillness locate our stories.
